Mission Impossible III – Schifrin And Variations
M. Giacchino & L. Schifrin
In scoring Mission: Impossible III, Michael Giacchino had some serious music boots to fill. The series is of course renowned for its famous, slow-burning signature theme by Lalo Schifrin, but in addition to that, the previous two instalments of the franchise were scored by Hollywood music heavyweights Danny Elfman and Hans Zimmer.
“Mission: Impossible III” is a festival of Giacchino goodness with all the brass, percussion and nonstop thrills. You know what you are getting into; don’t expect epic and majestic, except bold, in your face and many sudden turns. Imagine this score like an hour long rollercoaster on top of the tallest building you can find, followed by a sudden stop upside down and a bungee jump from that position.
